Air Weapon Systems (aircraft loadout, targeting and flight systems)

The systems layer for combat aircraft: a loadout menu, a targeting system, electronic warfare, aircraft customization, ejection and flight effects. The aircraft themselves, the weapons they carry and the pilot gear are separate addons; this one is what ties them together and gives you the controls.

Loadout menu (AMS)

  • Open AMS appears as an action in the aircraft when you are seated and the aircraft is stopped.
  • Choose what goes on each weapon station, set the loadout for the pilot and for the second seat, and see the ammunition counts.
  • Save your loadouts as presets, apply or remove them later, and reset back to the default.
  • Refuel and repair from the same menu.
  • Aircraft not covered by the loadout menu can be given these features by mission makers: the function fir_fnc_aws_enablefunction turns on the targeting system, the jammer, the lite loadout menu and the electronic-warfare features for any aircraft.

Targeting system (I-TGT)

  • Open I-TGT System appears in aircraft carrying a targeting pod (or the standard designator pod) while the engine is running.
  • Mark and manage targets from a map or grid: designate, slew the pod, keep lists of targets and markers, edit or delete them, and set points of interest.
  • Laser designation, ground and air data-link menus, and dead-target markers are part of the system.
  • Some guided weapons and bombs use the targets you set here.

Electronic warfare

  • ECM JAMMER ON is available on aircraft that have jamming ability, or that carry a jamming pod. More pods give a stronger effect.
  • An electronic-warfare display screen, anti-radar (SEAD) handling and decoys are included.

Customizing your aircraft

An in-game menu lets you change the aircraft's look: paint scheme or skin, emblems and insignia, kill marks, a name and rank tag with a choice of lettering styles, and the squadron markings on supported aircraft.

Flight and effects

  • Afterburner with its own flame and sound, and a toggle control.
  • Contrails and wing vapour.
  • Gun shake and a gun display.
  • Ejection for pilots and crew, for the player and for AI, with zero-zero and two-seat support.
  • Jettison of external fuel tanks.
  • A helmet-mounted display toggle, and a map display toggle.

For the editor

  • Editor modules for setting up the loadout system.
  • A Mission Planning Laptop and an Air Training Management System Laptop, a handheld PDU item, and IR flares.
  • In-game hint pages describing the weapons.
  • Two extra factions, "AWS - RED SIDE" and "AWS - BLU SIDE".

Settings and keybinds

This addon has no addon options. Its controls are listed under Options → Controls → Configure Addons → FIR AirWeaponSystem. They have no default key, so assign the ones you want. See keybinds_users.md for the list.
